We look at the best ski resorts for ski weekends within easy reach of Geneva...

Ski Weekends near Geneva Airport

Geneva airport is a popular hub for skiers because of its excellent location as a gateway to the French and Swiss Alps, large choice of regional UK airports to fly from and wide range of airlines to fly with.

This choice means that there are plenty of flight times, departure airports and prices to suit everyone.

If you've mainly travelled on Saturdays during the season, you might also be surprised to learn that Geneva is actually a relatively quiet airport, not even included in the top 100 of world's busiest airports.

All these facts help to make it the perfect spot to head into for a short ski break or 'ski weekend'.

Which are the best ski resorts near Geneva?

But where should you ski? If you only have a weekend, time is at a premium, so the shorter the transfer time the better.

Fortunately, there are some excellent ski resorts, all within 75 minutes of Geneva airport.

Here are three fantastic ski resorts perfect for a ski weekend near Geneva.

Chamonix >> Transfer time from Geneva: 1 hour 10 minutes

Ski destinations don't get much bigger than Chamonix. A pilgrimage to the Mt Blanc ski area is a must for every skier.

Home to the highest mountain in Europe, it is also the birthplace of the Winter Olympics, but most importantly of all, it has some incredible skiing.

The skiing is spread over multiple areas including, Les Houches, Brevent and Les Grands Montets.

The ski area is a mecca for freeskiers. Backcountry aficionados can enjoy long off-piste routes like the Vallée Blanche, departing from the Aiguille du Midi, throughout the season.

Join a Ski Weekend course, or ask us to book a guide and arrange a 'Belles Traces' or 'Tout Neige Tous Terrain' course for your group.

In general, skiing in Chamonix is a bit more advanced than other resorts, but that is part of the appeal.

The town is also excellent for après and evening entertainment that will suit everyone and has a great choice of accommodation options, from two-star to five-star.

Morzine >> Transfer time from Geneva: 1 hour 15 minutes

Morzine
offers the chance to ski the immense Portes du Soleil ski area - giving easy access to over 400km of pistes - but only 75 minutes transfer from Geneva airport.

The area includes the modern resort of Avoriaz, as well as the chance to ski over the border into the linked Swiss resorts including Champéry and Morgins.

There is so much variety of skiing here that skiers of all ability levels will find their comfort zone, as well as runs that will take you out of it and test you as well.

The town of Morzine is very Brit-friendly, and is full of English-speaking bars and restaurants, alongside traditional Savoyard offerings.

It is also one of the most charming resorts in the mountains, full of picture-perfect chalets and without any of the industrial feel of many of its peers.

La Clusaz  >> Transfer time from Geneva: 55 minutes

It's a surprise to us that La Clusaz is not higher on the radar of British skiers, despite the town's proximity to Geneva and the quality of skiing on offer.

Located 30 minutes from the turquoise and perfectly clear waters of Lake Annecy, the resort is found nestled in the tree line of the Aravis Massif.

For a short break, there is more than enough skiing to keep any level of rider happy.

The 120 km of piste spans a mixed area that offers sanctuary for beginners and mixed groups over in the Manigod sector.

More advanced skiers can take on steep on- and off-piste challenges in the La Balme sector, made famous by the skier Candide Thovex (although you definitely don't have to ski like him!).

The traditional feeling town centre is compact, making navigation easy. Despite its small size it still has the atmosphere of its bigger rivals and there is plenty of fun to be had.
