Chamonix is more than just a ski resort. A large town,
with the myriad of facilties one would expect. The centre
improves every year, with more and more traffic restrictions.
Walking through the middle of town is very pleasant
with, huge array of shops, cafes, bars and bistros.
The Alpine Museum is well worth a visit, steeped in
the history of Mont Blanc and the 1st Alpine Pioneers.
The town facilties include:
Indoor and outdoor skating rinks
Speed skating rink
4 Indoor tennis courts
Sports center complex with swimming pools, sauna,
Jacquzzi and indoor climbing wall
On Saturdays we have a huge local market full of local
produce which starts very early and finishes at midday
on the dot.
Culutural visits to nearby Historic roman town of Martingy
via one of the most beautifull train journeys in the
world. Martingy boasts the "Pierre et Gianada "
Art foundation, their exhibits change quarterly.
Leaving Chamonix in the other direction, through the
Mont Blanc tunnel, the pretty town of Courmayeur is
just 20 minutes away.
Many of the mountain restaurants are accessible from
the cable cars and it is possible to join skiers for
lunch.
