Quest Back Country Package

questSalomon have introduced a complete backcountry ski package developed in close collaboration with their Mountain Collective. Quest BC provides touring convenience with no compromise on downhill performance. Balancing the touring needs of lightweight construction and freedom of movement with power and response for charging steep, challenging terrain, Salomon Quest BC products let you take your hard-charging ski style to the next ridge line.

With any backcountry setup, there have traditionally been significant trade-offs between elements that enable skiers to traverse, ascend and hike to new terrain, versus fast ski descents in challenging and variable terrain. Access requires freedom of movement and light weight, while descending in challenging terrain requires supportive, powerful, stable equipment that won’t deflect at the first sign of refrozen snow.

Three years ago, Salomon introduced the Hike and Ride system with a magnesium backbone, enabling a fast switch from ankle mobility to powerful support throughout the upper cuff. This year, Salomon’s Quest MA X BC moves yet another step forward, with a lightweight Pebax shell / Polyolefine cuff, and 44° range of motion with integrated walking sole for comfort uphill, combined with a host of Salomon innovations for proven downhill performance (24mm Oversized Pivot for lateral transmission, Thermoformable liner for precise fit, and updated Backbone+ for power). All of these features deliver Salomon’s renowned skiing confidence.

Matching the power and convenience of the Quest Max BC is the Guardian MNC 16 binding, bringing touring convenience to a powerful freeride binding designed to maximize the performance of today’s wider skis. Lower to the ski and more rigid than other hybrid bindings, Guardian can be switched from ski to touring modes without removing the binding, and delivers superior confidence when conditions demand it. For 2014, the Guardian has been updated to be multi-norm certified (MNC). The addition of a sliding pedal (AFD) on the toe piece ensures full compatibility and safety with all boots meeting alpine (ISO 5355), WTR or AT norms (ISO 9523).

Rounding out the Quest BC package is the Q-BC LAB ski, the top of the line, big-mountain touring ski designed for uncompromising downhill performance. Thanks to a revolutionary new carbon reinforcement developed by Salomon R&D, CFX Superfiber, the Q-BC LAB weighs an astounding 1800g in size 184 (115 mm underfoot) while still using a poplar full wood core from tip to tail, making it a powerful, stable ski for the backcountry.

“With so many companies chasing the touring market, our approach has been very deliberate,” explains Denis Levet, Alpine Business Manager “Our goal has been evolution, not revolution, because our athletes have specific demands for fit and skiing performance, and our focus is to deliver those benefits. Quest BC embodies this approach.”
