Home Cooked food for all our chalet guests…

Chalet Jumelles

Welcome foodies one and all!

Chef JJ here just to update you foodie ski fanatics I’m writing this with the smells of 7 hour braised lamb and wild thyme  creeping around CHALET LES JUMELLES

So with a big mug of tea off we go …..

We had a MASSIVE dump of snow – lots of shovelling and the “vague du Froid ” last week with temps around -12 0c most days the AMAZING sight of cheeky baby deer venturing right up to the chalet kitchen window to eat the bread I put out for the wonderful selection of birds ….not a bad view from the office window I thought as I prepared a post hangover fry-up! Shame for our guests that THUNDER TOFFEE VODKA hot chocolates ,  blueberry vanilla cream muffins for tea and relaxing saunas after a hard day on the slope were the order of the day.

The super new 4k curved screen TV and BOSE sound system enables our guests to view their triumphs and disasters on the slopes and then Bluetooth great tunes before bubbles and big G and T’s along with nibbles before the main event of DINNER! Well what else could you expect after “a superb  week of sport and gastronomic delights”  in the words of our discerning ski weekend clients…

A terrine of salmon, cod and broccoli with saffron balsamic was accompanied by a Savoyard APREMONT white wine … crisp and fresh, perfectly matched. Our guests lapped it up chatting and laughing the evening away … a cheeky red from Bordeaux followed to pair the rare fillet of beef en croute with a foie gras and port sauce, the market in Chamonix had provided us with tiny Grenaille potatoes from Normoutier in the west of France. I delicately tossed them in butter and fresh chives with some roasted cherry tomatoes and sugar snap peas … (I was very happy to see our guests enjoying  their beef welly!!!)

Spotlessly clean plates were replaced by a tartare of pineapple and banana flambeed in rum and served with caramelized bananas in a tuille biscuit mould with mascarpone cream …wine bottles drained and repleated the guests gave me a round of applause  *whoop whoop* ..JOB  WELL DONE.

The other event this weekend highlights why you should choose SKI WEEKEND … the chalet above us is self-catering so no chef JJ for them to start with! A group of Colombians on a 3-day break arrived in their rental car a land rover discovery … now it might have been top of the range, but having no idea how to drive in snow they turned round in the car park and nosedived into our garden spending the next 2 hours trying to get out. No dinner for them!  The next day they carried their skis to the bus stop ….and when leaving took 3 hours to pack up and got stuck in snow AGAIN. “SHOULD HAVE BOOKED WITH SKI WEEKEND!!!”

Off to the post office to send a lost hat and some turquoise knickers back to their forgetful owners .
PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR DRAWERS! Never mind all in a day’s work
