The Brevent lift in Chamonix may not be as well known as the world-famous Aiguille du Midi, but it also has a long history.

Chamonix was awarded the Flocon Vert label in 2013 for their commitment to sustainable tourism, but the resort has not rested on its laurels.

The valley has recently announced several initiatives in their Climate Territorial Energy Plan (PCET), designed to promote more ‘passive’ tourism - respecting the environment and limiting the pressure on nature.

This has been a year unlike any other for travel and tourism. We saw the ski lifts in France finish early for the season, but the last few months have seen a recovery to the ‘new normal’.

Chamonix has been leading the way. It was the first resort in France to re-open its lifts and has just announced another great innovation for tourists for this summer.

More good ‘déconfinement’ news from Chamonix as the mountain refuges have started to reopen, with new health and hygiene protocols in place.

While Chamonix is best known as a ski and summer adventure destination, with a list of activities to get your adrenaline pumping, the rich variety of styles of architecture in Chamonix might surprise the casual visitor.

This weekend the Aiguille du Midi cable car and Montenvers train in Chamonix both opened. They became the first lifts to start again since all ski resorts in France closed down due to Covid-19 in March 2020.
